The purpose of the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) is to promote specific improvements in patient safety, reaching across organizational boundaries to:
- Support effective responses to actual occurrences
- Proactively identify and reduce medical/healthcare errors
- Integrate patient safety priorities into the new design and redesign of all relevant processes, functions, and services
